After a slow increase leading to 21 detected cases of local spread on Saturday, Sunday recorded 83 local cases and 120 imported cases.

The CECC attempted to assuage fears that they were losing control of the situation by pointing out that 52 of the local cases were tied to a single cluster in the North, and that 47 of those were Thai migrant workers with limited social connections within the community.

Still, the remaining 31 cases were unrelated and itself represents a massive increase in local spread, with 31 cases in a day significantly higher than any daily case number reported in months. The cases were not tied to any single cluster or community, and were spread throughout the island.
