Despite relative calm in China, the significantly more open Hong Kong’s case numbers have exploded in the past few days, spiralling out of control from the tens to more than 17,000 cases on Saturday.

Carrie Lam has indicated that testing capacity will be boosted to more than 1 million per day, allowing the government to test the entire population of Hong Kong every week. This contrasts sharply with indications in the United States and UK that they consider the costs of prevention measures to outweigh the mortality and labor burdens faced by those states.
