Ger Baushuan (葛葆萱), Taiwan’s Ambassador to India, is currently visiting southern India. He is meeting with officials there to discuss trade and economic ties. Ger met with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Karnataka Province. Reportedly they expressed looking forward to working with Taiwan. Karnataka’s capital is known as the “Silicon Valley of India” and could present significant opportunities for Taiwan’s tech sector.
India is hoping to become a major part of the global supply chain. The current shakeup of trade due to the COVID pandemic could present India with a golden opportunity to do just this. Taiwan, with its world-class semiconductor industry, could also stand to benefit greatly. This is especially true if India boosts its position in the global supply chain.
The delegation reported that it engaged in numerous meetings on strengthening economic ties and trade with India. As Taiwan has worried about intellectual property theft recently, this could be quite an opportunity for both countries to boost their global position.
