Taiwan’s Atomic Energy Council (AEC) received an alert today from the Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant (馬鞍山核能發電廠), in Pingtung. It seems the alarm went off in relation to an issue with pipes that were transporting radioactive waste.
After the notification it is reported that operators shut down the systems involved without incident and contacted the AEC immediately.
As of now, the AEC has said that radiation levels throughout the 3rd Nuclear Reactor appear normal and that there was likely a false alarm at the plant. The council said that it will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action should the situation change.
