Chen Po-wei (陳柏惟) was the only elected member of the Taiwan Statebuilding Party (台灣基進) until he was recalled last October. Now it seems that local elections will be more important than ever for the young party.

It is yet to be determined what Chen will do in the future, due to being recalled he will be unable to run for his former office in Taichung for the next 4 years. It has also been reported that he will not run for Mayor of Taichung, which some had speculated he might, though it seems that according to current polling, current mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕), is set to win regardless of her opponent. While Chen’s future may be in question, many other TSP candidates will be running in local races around Taiwan in November.

TSP Chairman, Chen Yi-chi (陳奕齊), will be coming to Kaohsiung to to support many of the local races taking place in the south. Many also speculate that he will be running for office himself in either Kaohsiung or Taichung. The TSP is also expected to run candidates in multiple cities and counties this year including Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Chiayi, and Tainan.

Whether the young party will be able to grab more local seats will be seen in November, who will be running for said seats will also be revealed in the coming months.
