With recent local spread of the Omnicom variant in Taiwan, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai is encouraging residents to get boosted with a third dose of one of the various vaccines available to residents.

In recent speeches Chen has reiterated that the vaccine reserves are enough for people to get their third dose of the vaccine. Chen also hinted at his worry about the relatively low rate of vaccination amongst the elderly, especially those over 75 years old.

Kaohsiung vaccination overall, and specifically for those over 75, are in the middle the rest of the country. Neither terribly high or low. About 68% for all residents and about 65% for those 75 years of age or older that have received two doses.

The local government is hoping to quickly administer booster shots for the first three priory groups in Kaohsiung. These groups include: medical personnel and those involved in epidemic prevention (quarantine hotel staff, drivers, etc).
