As recent cases have ticked up, some in Taitung have complained that those in smaller villages have been denied care in city clinics.

Yesterday (March 28) Taitung County saw 7 new COVID cases. In response, rapid testing sites were set up in order to catch any cases that were still outside of quarantine.

One villager complained that they visited a clinic and were refused service. The patient was visiting to deal with a sore in their mouth. The villager stated that they took a rapid test that was negative. In spite of this they claimed doctors turned them away and that at one point a doctor even berated them inside the clinic and forced them to leave.

The Taitung Department of Health, in response to the accusations, stated that medical establishments are not allowed to refuse treatment to anyone. Emphasizing that everyone in Taiwan must work together to ensure that the pandemic can be brought under control once more.
