The Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau, is kicking off ‘Rock Cijin Fun’ (搖滾旗津Fun) tonight. The event is an attempt to bring more tourism money into the small island off the southwestern coast of Kaohsiung. The island has seen less tourists over the past year due to COVID.

At the event there will be many discounts. One that has been ongoing, and will last until April 5th, is that those taking the ferry to Cijin will receive a NT$100 coupon to use on the island. According to government data, the number of ferry tickets to the island up around 60,000 as compared with last year.

The event will start at 6 pm tonight and feature numerous musical acts. There include many locally born talents including Huang Fei (黃妃) and Henry Hsu (許富凱).

There will also be deals on food and rentals such as electric scooters and bicycles.

It appears that the push has already had some success and is likely to see even more people heading out to Cijin in the coming days. However, there may be some impact on tourism to the island if there continues to be COVID cases in Kaohsiung as there were 13 yesterday.
