Due to recent community spread in Kaohsiung, schools will begin their Winter Vacation today as the city hopes to avoid further community spread.
There were 3 local cases in Kaohsiung yesterday. In reaction, the local government has decided to begin Winter Vacation early. One of the cases yesterday, a 4-year-old child, was attending a kindergarten and now all those that were attending or teaching there, 79 people in total, will have to spend their Lunar New Year holiday in a quarantine hotel.
Kaohsiung has largely been COVID free in the past few months. Though with an international airport and harbor it is easy to see how community spread could occur, in fact, the father of the family infected yesterday did work at the harbor, and had reportedly traveled to the north where infections are much more common.
Whether or not there is more community spread in Kaohsiung is yet to be seen. If there is we will update you here with developments.
